Sr Staff Engineer, Applications Engineering (STA)
SynopsysJob Title
Sr Staff Engineer, Applications Engineering (STA)
Role Summary
Customer-facing technical lead for static timing analysis (STA) and timing constraints, supporting signoff flows for advanced-node semiconductor designs. Collaborate with customers, R&D, and product teams to diagnose timing issues, recommend fixes, and drive adoption of PrimeTime signoff methodologies.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting indicates a senior/staff role; specific years of experience are not provided.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include direct customer engagement, technical problem solving, and collaboration with product and R&D teams.
- Work with semiconductor customers to diagnose and resolve complex timing constraints and closure issues.
- Provide expert guidance on timing constraints end-to-end and the overall timing closure flow.
- Debug critical timing problems (lint, promote/demote, block2top, setup/hold, clocking, SI, variability).
- Drive adoption of PrimeTime and signoff flows; translate R&D features into customer-ready methodologies.
- Collaborate with R&D and product engineering to reproduce issues and prioritize fixes/enhancements.
- Develop reference flows, automation scripts (Tcl, Python), and best-practice guidance.
- Deliver customer-facing technical training, workshops, and demonstrations.
Requirements
Key technical and interpersonal requirements. Education details are listed below under Education Requirements.
- Must-have: Deep hands-on expertise with Synopsys PrimeTime/TCM or equivalent STA and constraints tools in production design environments.
- Must-have: Strong command of timing constraints (SDC) creation, validation, and debugging across complex hierarchical designs.
- Must-have: Strong debugging and problem-solving skills for timing closure and signoff issues.
- Must-have: Proficiency in Tcl scripting; Python or Perl experience is a plus.
- Must-have: Excellent communication skills and proven ability to engage customers and drive issues to resolution.
- Must-have: Prior customer-facing or application engineering experience.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with RTL-based flows, mode merge, correlation, or high-performance designs (CPU, GPU, AI/ML chips).
Education Requirements
B.Tech in Electronics and Communication OR M.Tech in VLSI, Embedded Systems, or Communication Systems (as specified in the posting).
