Job Title

Sr. Staff Design Engineer — CPU IP Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead RTL development and microarchitecture for a performance-efficient, low-power AI CPU core. Work with modeling, verification, and physical-design teams to meet functional, performance, power, area, and timing targets.

Experience Level

Senior — experienced CPU/IP design engineer. Position advertises Master's degree with 7–10 years or PhD with 5–7 years of relevant experience (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include microarchitecture, RTL design ownership, and cross-functional integration and verification.

  • Define, lead and own RTL development for one or more CPU blocks.
  • Drive microarchitecture and detailed specification from high-level exploration to implementation.
  • Develop and refine RTL to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.
  • Support and coordinate functional verification and assist in verification strategy.
  • Collaborate with modeling, SoC integration, and physical-design teams on timing, area, reliability, testability, and power.
  • Analyze performance trade-offs and validate RTL performance targets.

Requirements

Technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred.

  • Must-have: Hands-on knowledge of CPU pipeline stages and microprocessor architecture (fetch/decode, branch prediction, scheduling, renaming, ROB, out-of-order execution, integer/FPU, load/store, prefetch, caches, memory subsystems).
  • Must-have: Proficiency in SystemVerilog, Verilog and/or VHDL and experience with simulators and waveform debugging tools.
  • Must-have: Solid understanding of logic design principles, timing and power implications.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience designing RISC-V, ARM, and/or MIPS CPUs; hardware multithreading, virtualization, SIMD; real-time microcontroller designs.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with low-power microarchitecture techniques, CPU integration at SoC level, safety/security microarchitecture, and scripting (Perl, Python).

Education Requirements

Position specifies advanced degrees: Master’s degree with 7–10 years of relevant experience, or PhD with 5–7 years of relevant experience.
