Job Title
Sr Staff COE Emulation Engineer
Role Summary
Senior emulation engineer in the Emulation Center of Excellence (CoE) within the Custom Compute and Storage (CCS) business unit. Responsible for driving emulation strategy, enabling vendor platforms, and executing emulation test plans to validate complex SoCs and subsystems prior to tape-out.
Experience Level
Senior level. Title indicates senior/lead role.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development, bring-up, and execution of emulation solutions for large-scale SoC and subsystem designs.
- Build and integrate complex subsystem emulation models; manage environment setup, compilation, and debug.
- Drive emulation bring-up: clock/reset sequencing, firmware boot, and system validation on pre-silicon hardware models.
- Execute emulation test plans to support verification, performance analysis, software development, and system validation across teams.
- Collaborate with RTL design, verification, firmware teams, and senior emulation engineers to ensure accurate hardware models and smooth integration.
- Debug complex SoC and subsystem issues across RTL, firmware, emulation platforms, and toolchains.
- Optimize emulation performance through model partitioning, timing adjustments, and runtime efficiency improvements.
- Automate flows and improve productivity with scripting and tooling enhancements.
- Work with EDA vendors to evaluate platforms, resolve technical issues, and influence tool features.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and working experience for the role.
- Proficient with SystemVerilog and UVM.
- Hands-on experience developing emulation models and using emulation platforms from Synopsys, Cadence, or Siemens (e.g., Veloce, ZeBu, Palladium).
- Proven emulation bring-up experience, including reset sequencing and firmware bring-up.
- Strong knowledge of processor architecture, SoC components, interconnect buses, and I/O protocols such as PCIe, CXL, and Ethernet.
- Experience with memory interface technologies such as DDR and HBM.
- Skilled in scripting (Python, Perl, Tcl, UNIX shell) to automate flows and tooling.
- Good programming skills, particularly in C++; familiarity with ARM assembly is expected.
- Ability to define emulation strategy, develop platform requirements and test plans, and lead verification execution for large products.
- Strong debugging skills across RTL, firmware, emulation platforms, and toolchains.
- Effective collaborator, detail-oriented, self-driven, adaptable, and able to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Education Requirements
BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science with 5–7 years of emulation experience; or MS/PhD in those fields with 3–5 years of emulation experience.
