Sr. Staff ASIC Design Engineer
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Sr. Staff ASIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior ASIC design engineer focused on Design-for-Test (DFT) architecture, verification, and front-end integration for next-generation graphics and compute silicon. The role partners with Architecture, IP Design, Physical Design, and Product Engineering teams to deliver high-quality silicon and support first-pass silicon success.
Location: San Jose, CA (hybrid).
Experience Level
Senior-level (Level - Senior); typically 7+ years of relevant ASIC/DFT experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include DFT implementation, verification, and post-silicon support to achieve successful chip bring-up and improved yield.
- Design and verify DFT architecture and features (scan, JTAG, IEEE 1500, Memory BIST, etc.).
- Perform scan insertion and generate ATPG patterns.
- Verify ATPG patterns using gate-level simulation.
- Analyze test coverage and perform test-cost reduction analysis.
- Provide post-silicon bring-up support and accelerate yield learning.
- Collaborate with architecture, IP, physical design, and product engineering teams to integrate DFT effectively.
- Document verification results and hand off test solutions to production teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role, followed by preferred tools and exposures.
- Proven experience implementing and verifying DFT (scan, ATPG, memory BIST, JTAG/IEEE 1500).
- Hands-on experience with scan insertion and ATPG pattern generation and analysis.
- Experience verifying ATPG patterns with gate-level simulation.
- Post-silicon bring-up and yield-analysis experience.
- Proficiency with scripting (Perl, Shell) and Verilog RTL.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Nice-to-have: experience with VCS simulation tools.
- Nice-to-have: background in graphics or compute ASIC design.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with Mentor TestKompress and/or Synopsys TetraMAX/DFTMAX.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (as stated).
