Job Title
Sr. Staff Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Senior, customer-facing technical expert on timing signoff within the Synopsys Signoff Static Timing Analysis (STA) team. Work with semiconductor customers and internal R&D/product teams to resolve advanced-node timing closure and signoff challenges using PrimeTime.
Based in Hyderabad (open to hire in Bangalore or Hyderabad). The role emphasizes technical ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and enabling successful tapeouts on 5nm and below designs.
Experience Level
Senior. No specific years-of-experience requirement specified.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include customer support, debugging, methodology development, and enabling production deployment of signoff flows:
- Resolve complex timing closure and signoff issues for advanced-node designs under tapeout schedules.
- Debug setup and hold violations, clock domain crossings, SI-induced timing failures, and variability-related signoff problems using PrimeTime.
- Apply MMMC analysis and variation-aware methodologies (OCV/AOCV/POCV) for advanced nodes (5nm and below).
- Collaborate with R&D and product engineering to reproduce customer issues, identify root causes, and drive tool or methodology improvements.
- Develop reference flows and automation scripts (Tcl, Python) and produce best-practice documentation for customers.
- Deliver technical training, workshops, demos, and proofs-of-concept to customer design teams to drive adoption and production deployment.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and competencies; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Hands-on production experience with Synopsys PrimeTime for static timing analysis and signoff.
- Deep knowledge of timing constraints (SDC), MMMC analysis frameworks, and variation-aware signoff methodologies.
- Proven ability to debug complex timing issues including clocking and signal integrity effects.
- Proficiency in Tcl scripting for tool automation; Python or Perl experience is a strong plus.
- Experience with advanced-node designs (5nm and below) and associated signoff requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to engage directly with customers and deliver solutions.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience building reusable automation and reference flows for customer environments.
- Prior experience delivering customer training and tapeout support.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and a Master's degree in VLSI, Embedded Systems, or Communication Systems.
