Sr Principal SI/PI Engineer

Role Summary

Hands-on senior engineer in the HPP IP R&D Group focused on signal-integrity (SI) and power-integrity (PI) for high-speed IP products. The role works on package and evaluation-board SI/PI optimization, channel modeling, simulation-to-measurement correlation, and customer technical support.

Experience Level

Senior level. The posting requests at least 3+ years of relevant experience, preferably with high-speed SerDes and PHYs.

Responsibilities

Key technical responsibilities:

• Optimize and verify SI/PI for test-chip package designs.
• Design and optimize evaluation boards for best SI/PI performance.
• Generate extracted and measured channel models for chip designers.
• Develop package and PCB SI/PI design guidelines and respond to customer SI/PI inquiries.
• Review customer package/board designs and simulation results; provide corrective feedback to improve IP performance.
• Perform link-performance simulations using S-parameter channel models and IBIS-AMI behavioral models.
• Support SI/PI debugging of test chips and customer ASICs in the lab.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• 3+ years working with high-speed SerDes and PHYs (preferred).
• Strong understanding of high-speed SerDes architecture.
• Hands-on lab experience with high-speed instruments (oscilloscopes, TDRs, VNAs, spectrum analyzers).
• Experience with 3D and 2.5D extraction tools (for example, Sigrity Clarity/PowerSI or Ansys HFSS/SIwave).
• Experience running IBIS-AMI model simulations and correlating simulation to lab measurements.
• Knowledge of PCB and FCBGA design rules and requirements.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.

Education Requirements

M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field (stated as the required degree in the posting).
