Job Title
Sr. Principal - IP Design
Role Summary
Lead IP and subsystem roadmaps and deliver complex IP solutions for SoC and system-level products. Collaborate with global systems and SoC teams to define high-level specifications, architect IP/subsystems, and drive designs through implementation and integration.
Experience Level
Senior. Role expects extensive experience; the posting specifies 18+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for end-to-end ownership of IP and subsystem domains, from strategy through delivery. Typical responsibilities include:
- Own and drive roadmaps for the IP/subsystem portfolio across global R&D.
- Benchmark competitors and define differentiating features and innovations for customers.
- Architect and design complex IPs and subsystems for edge processing and automotive systems (including ASIL-D and gateway systems).
- Lead IP development from concept through design, integration, and achievement of system-level performance targets on market-driven schedules.
- Ensure quality throughout the IP lifecycle; analyze and improve development processes to reduce defects.
- Drive and harmonize IP design methodologies across multiple sites and mentor engineering teams.
Requirements
Essential technical and professional qualifications. Candidates should meet most of the must-have items; a few items are listed as advantageous.
-
Must-have: 18+ years of experience in architecting and designing complex IPs and subsystems with minimal supervision.
-
Must-have: Experience with processor and custom processor designs (including DSP functions for vision/radar) and cache-based subsystems (e.g., RISC-V cores).
-
Must-have: Hands-on experience with HDLs (Verilog/VHDL), scripting (Perl, Tcl) and C/C++ for hardware modeling.
-
Must-have: Experience with high-speed serial protocols and PHY/controller challenges (PCIe, Ethernet, MIPI CSI-2) and external memory interfaces (DDR4/LPDDR4, QuadSPI).
-
Must-have: Knowledge of microcontroller architecture and bus protocols (AHB/AMBA, AXI) and end-to-end IP development flow including CDC/RDC, synthesis, and DFT/ATPG.
-
Must-have: Experience developing testplans and working closely with verification teams.
-
Nice-to-have: Hands-on pre-silicon validation using FPGA or emulation platforms.
-
Nice-to-have: Demonstrated leadership, strong written and verbal communication, and ability to work across multisite teams.
Education Requirements
