Sr Principal Engineer

Role Summary

The Sr Principal Engineer is responsible for the physical implementation and optimization of IP, subsystems or full IC designs. This role covers the flow from RTL synthesis through GDS, including floorplanning, placement, routing, timing closure and physical verification.

Works with technology and reliability constraints (DRC/LVS, electromigration, IR drop) and defines physical design strategies per technology node.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include implementation, optimization and verification of physical designs:

• Perform RTL synthesis and full physical implementation up to GDSII.
• Develop floorplanning, placement and routing strategies for IP/subsystem/IC designs.
• Drive timing closure using STA and implement ECOs as required.
• Execute and troubleshoot physical verification (DRC, LVS) and reliability checks (electromigration, IR drop).
• Define and document best-practice physical design strategies for specific technology nodes.
• Diagnose and resolve physical-design issues across the implementation flow.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items noted separately.

• Must-have: Demonstrated experience with RTL synthesis, placement, routing, floorplanning and timing closure (STA).
• Must-have: Practical experience handling ECOs and design convergence to meet timing and functional goals.
• Must-have: Experience with physical verification and reliability checks including DRC, LVS, electromigration and IR-drop analysis.
• Must-have: Experience defining physical design strategy across technology nodes and optimizing for manufacturability and reliability.
• Nice-to-have: Architecture-level understanding of IP/subsystem integration and prior role mentoring or technical leadership.
