Job Title

Sr. Principal Embedded Systems Security Engineer

Role Summary

The Sr. Principal Embedded Systems Security Engineer will define and validate security foundations for advanced SoCs and secure embedded systems within NXP's Competence Center Crypto & Security and the SoC/IC Security Engineering Team.

The role partners with product teams, architects, certification labs and customers to translate security requirements into hardware, firmware, and software mechanisms and to assess weaknesses across the product lifecycle.

Experience Level

Senior β€” senior-level engineering role with expectations of extensive experience in embedded/SoC security and security architecture.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include driving security-by-design, threat analysis, and validating security mechanisms across hardware and software.

  • Drive security architecture and security-by-design approaches for advanced SoCs and secure embedded systems.
  • Define security requirements and translate them into hardware, firmware, and software security mechanisms.
  • Perform threat modeling, risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, and root-cause investigations.
  • Assess and challenge security architectures to identify weaknesses before product release.
  • Work with global product teams, security architects, customers, and certification bodies to support compliance and certifications.
  • Contribute to secure IP block and next-generation security feature development.
  • Mentor engineers on secure design principles, verification methodologies, and emerging threats.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience required; additional listed areas are strong advantages.

  • Must-have: Strong understanding of SoC, IC, or embedded system architectures.
  • Must-have: Experience with embedded system design and secure hardware/software interaction.
  • Must-have: Knowledge of security principles and secure development methodologies.
  • Must-have: Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills in an international environment.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with security architecture for embedded/semiconductor products and security IP development.
  • Nice-to-have: Cryptography and cryptographic implementations, secure boot, root of trust, key management, and secure provisioning.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with Side-Channel Analysis (SCA), Fault Injection (FI) and mitigation techniques, and vulnerability assessment/penetration testing of embedded systems.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Hardware Description Languages (SystemVerilog, Verilog, VHDL) and security verification/validation methodologies.

Education Requirements

Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field. (No equivalent-experience language specified.)
