Job Title

Sr Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead physical design for ASIC/IP and SoC projects at Ericsson's Austin design site. Define tools, flows and methodologies from the ground up and drive execution across advanced process nodes in collaboration with CAD, design and international engineering teams.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 10+ years of physical design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Define and implement the physical design flow, tool choices, methods and processes for ASIC and IP design.
  • Lead physical design execution for IP and SoC projects: floorplanning, placement, routing, PPA optimization, power and timing closure, and signoff.
  • Collaborate with design, CAD, verification and cross-disciplinary teams and coordinate with global engineering counterparts.
  • Recruit, interview, onboard and mentor physical design engineers; help build and grow the local team.
  • Work hands-on with advanced process nodes and drive problem resolution through tape-out.
  • Address back-end concerns including EMIR, DFM, DFT and power grid analysis.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of physical design experience in SoC, IP or ASIC environments.
  • Deep expertise in one or more areas: PPA optimization, RTL checks & synthesis, floorplanning & routing, power & timing closure, or signoff.
  • Solid working knowledge of EMIR, DFM, DFT and power grid analysis.
  • SystemVerilog knowledge.
  • Semi-custom design experience.
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g. Python, Tcl, Perl) for automation and flow development.
  • Proven ability to drive execution and close complex problems under program pressure; strong mentoring and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience defining greenfield flows and tooling for a new design site.
  • Previous work on 5G baseband or radio ASICs.

Education Requirements

BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required (minimum).
