Role Summary

Join AMD's Silicon CAD team to develop and maintain production-grade physical design CAD flows and automation for GPUs, CPUs, APUs, and SoCs. The role focuses on improving place-and-route, timing closure, power optimization, and design convergence using industry-standard EDA tools.

Position is based in Austin, TX with a hybrid work arrangement. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include developing CAD flows, integrating EDA tools, and supporting production tape-outs.

  • Design, maintain, and enhance physical design CAD flows for AI, HPC, CPU, GPU, and SoC programs.
  • Deploy, integrate, and support industry-standard EDA tools and methodologies (e.g., Synopsys, Cadence).
  • Develop solutions for place-and-route, timing closure, power optimization, and design convergence.
  • Debug and optimize power, performance, and area (PPA) related physical-design challenges.
  • Create and maintain validation environments, test suites, regression infrastructure, and qualification methods.
  • Evaluate, qualify, and integrate new EDA tool capabilities and vendor technologies.
  • Collaborate with internal design teams and EDA vendors to drive methodology improvements and tool enhancements.
  • Improve and maintain CAD infrastructure, automation frameworks, and engineering workflows; leverage AI and automation to reduce design cycle time.
  • Provide technical guidance and customer support to engineering teams worldwide.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in physical design implementation and CAD flow development for production designs and tape-outs.
  • Strong knowledge of place-and-route, timing closure, physical verification, extraction, and timing signoff concepts.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using TCL and Python.
  • Experience debugging complex physical-design flow and methodology issues and optimizing PPA.
  • Experience working with EDA vendors and integrating vendor tools into flows (experience with Synopsys or Cadence preferred).
  • Ability to build and maintain validation, regression, and qualification infrastructure.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills; able to work independently and across teams.
  • Experience applying AI tools or automation to improve engineering productivity is preferred.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
