Sr Manager, Field Applications Engineer (FAE)

Role Summary

Lead a team of Field Applications Engineers supporting Renesas embedded processing products for strategic accounts in the Northeast US and eastern Canada. This is a player–coach role combining hands-on technical ownership of customer programs with people and program leadership.

Primary mission: drive customer success for MCU/MPU and connectivity products, support sales engagements from discovery through production, and develop a high-performance FAE team.

Experience Level

Senior — requires substantial embedded processing experience. The posting indicates 8+ years in embedded processing design and 3+ years of people leadership.

Responsibilities

Accountable for technical leadership, customer engagement, and team development across assigned strategic accounts.

  • Serve as primary technical interface for customers using MCU, MPU, and connectivity products.
  • Partner with Sales to define and execute account strategies from discovery to production.
  • Capture customer requirements and recommend products, solutions, and services for end applications.
  • Drive issue escalations and coordinate with internal engineering to achieve timely, high-quality resolutions.
  • Provide program updates and technical status to senior leadership.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop FAE team members; set role expectations and technical development targets.
  • Allocate resources across customer priorities and manage team bandwidth.
  • Collaborate with Product Line, Marketing, and Sales Enablement to feed field insights into roadmaps and create technical content and training.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience for the role.

  • 8+ years working with ARM and/or proprietary MCU-based embedded processing design.
  • 3+ years of people leadership (team lead, supervisor, manager, or equivalent player–coach role).
  • Strong proficiency in embedded processor project design and debug using development tools for RTOS and Linux-based systems.
  • Good understanding of hardware design and schematics related to MCU-based systems.
  • Proven ability to interface directly with customers on complex technical topics and support projects from discovery through production.
  • Experience managing technical escalations and coordinating cross-functional resolution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English; able to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Renesas MCU/MPU products or similar semiconductor products.
  • Experience with wireless connectivity (BLE, Wi‑Fi, NFC).
  • Experience in embedded AI/ML applications.
  • Track record of developing early-career engineers and building high-performance technical teams.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership with Product Line, Marketing, Sales, or Systems Engineering teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is required; Master’s degree preferred. (No alternative "equivalent experience" language specified.)
