Sr. FPGA/Modem Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior FPGA engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and verifying modem and software-defined radio (SDR) functions on FPGA platforms. Works with hardware and software teams to integrate radio subsystems and support lab-based verification.
Long-term contractor role (6β9+ months, possible extension). On-site in San Diego; start ASAP. U.S. citizenship required.
Experience Level
Senior β 10+ years of FPGA and modem design experience required.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include implementing modem algorithms on FPGA, verifying designs, and supporting hardware integration and lab testing.
- Design and implement FPGA logic for modulation/demodulation, digital filters, FFTs, and digital PLLs using VHDL.
- Develop and maintain modem algorithms and related C code for verification and integration.
- Perform design verification and validation from RTL through system-level testing.
- Integrate FPGA designs with radio hardware and perform lab-based testing and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems engineers to meet performance and timing requirements.
- Document designs, test procedures, and verification results.

Must-have: Experience with Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale devices.

Preferred: Active government security clearance; candidates with inactive clearances (recent within 5 years) may be considered and reactivation willingness is preferred.
