Job Title
Sr. FPGA Engineer - Aerospace
Role Summary
Design, test, and document safety-critical digital hardware and FPGA/CPLD systems for high-reliability aerospace and ground-vehicle applications. Work across requirements, RTL, synthesis, verification, integration, qualification testing, and production support.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5–10+ years of circuit and FPGA design experience; alternative: master’s degree with ~3+ years' relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary engineering duties focused on FPGA-based digital hardware through full development and integration life cycle.
- Generate requirements and implement RTL designs (VHDL/SystemVerilog) for FPGA/CPLD targets.
- Develop test benches (UVM), run design simulations, perform static timing and power analysis, and execute requirements-based verification.
- Support prototype evaluation, design reviews, qualification test support, and system integration.
- Build, test, and modify hardware in lab and production environments to meet specifications.
- Document designs, contribute to engineering estimates, and support obsolescence and production engineering tasks.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical abilities for this role.
- Proven FPGA/CPLD design experience using VHDL and SystemVerilog; experience developing UVM test benches.
- DO-254 experience for aerospace hardware development (required).
- Hands-on circuit design experience and familiarity with digital electronic devices and circuit card integration to ensure electrical integrity.
- Experience with RTL synthesis, static timing analysis, power analysis, and tool flows for FPGA development.
- Hands-on hardware build, lab testing, and system integration experience.
- Experience using MATLAB and Simulink for FPGA code auto-generation.
- Familiarity with design/analysis tools such as Timing Designer and HyperLynx (preferred).
- Strong problem-solving, written and oral communication, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is specified. Candidates with a master’s degree and reduced experience are acceptable. The posting allows equivalent practical experience as an alternative: typical experience expectations are BSEE + 5–10+ years or master’s + ~3+ years.
