Job Title
Senior Filter Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join the RF devices team in Apopka to design, simulate, and deliver BAW and SAW filters and front-end module components for mobile wireless applications. The role spans device design, EM/acoustic simulation, layout, characterization, and production transfer.
The team works cross-functionally with process, test, product and application engineering to optimize device performance and manufacturing readiness.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 5+ years of relevant industry experience in RF/microwave device or circuit design.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop BAW and SAW filter components for wireless RF applications.
- Perform acoustic and electromagnetic simulations and provide final device layouts for mask creation.
- Design a variety of microwave acoustic filters (bandpass, ladder, notch, CRF, acoustic-assisted, etc.).
- Conduct feasibility studies and competitive technical analyses to define new products.
- Work with process and R&D engineers to account for fabrication variations and capabilities.
- Collaborate with characterization and test engineers to evaluate and diagnose devices using RF/microwave test equipment.
- Document designs and provide guidance for product usage and production transfer.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design flow, methods, and cycle time.
Requirements
Essential and preferred technical qualifications.
-
Must-have: Practical RF circuit design experience (filters, resonators, couplers, antennas, amplifiers) and hands-on RF device characterization/system-level measurements.
-
Must-have: Experience with EM simulation tools (HFSS or equivalent) and layout design/troubleshooting.
-
Must-have: Skills in impedance matching, tuning, and filter component evaluation and integration.
-
Must-have: Knowledge of microelectronic fabrication, high-volume manufacturing considerations, and process improvement methods.
-
Nice-to-have: Direct BAW or SAW design experience.
-
Nice-to-have: Programming or scripting skills (e.g., Matlab) to support modeling and automation.
-
Nice-to-have: General familiarity with wireless protocols and communication standards.
Education Requirements
Degrees or equivalent experience: BSEE with ~5 years' relevant experience, MSEE with ~2β3 years' relevant experience, or a PhD in a related field are listed as typical pathways. Equivalent industry or academic experience in electrical engineering or closely related technical areas is acceptable.
