Job Title

Sr. Engineer, Ethernet IP

Role Summary

Engineer the firmware and bring-up for Ethernet MAC/PHY/SerDes subsystems that connect Tenstorrent AI silicon to high-performance networks. Work at the hardware-software boundary with silicon architects, RTL teams, and network software to enable and optimize link training, auto-negotiation, and performance tuning on large-scale platforms.

Experience Level

Senior. The posting is for a senior-level engineer; the company may adjust level during interview and considers a range of seniorities. Specific years of experience are not listed.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on low-level firmware, silicon bring-up, and debugging of network subsystems.

  • Develop and maintain bare-metal firmware to control Ethernet MAC, PHY, and SerDes components.
  • Drive silicon bring-up, lab validation, and troubleshooting of networking subsystems.
  • Implement and optimize link-training algorithms and auto-negotiation protocols.
  • Debug hardware-software interactions, including signal-integrity and protocol timing issues using lab instruments.
  • Collaborate with silicon architects and RTL designers to influence future networking hardware from a firmware perspective.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and proficiencies.

  • Experience writing low-level/bare-metal firmware for Ethernet MAC/PHY/PCS and SerDes components.
  • Proven track record of silicon bring-up and lab validation of networking subsystems.
  • Knowledge of link-training, auto-negotiation, and Ethernet protocol behavior.
  • Hands-on debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or similar lab equipment to diagnose signal and timing issues.
  • Ability to translate hardware constraints into software/firmware requirements and communicate with RTL and network software teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for complex hardware-software interactions.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with high-performance compute or AI platform networking.
  • Familiarity with RISC-V systems or firmware for custom silicon.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
