Senior Field Applications Engineer (FAE)

Role Summary

Provide application engineering and technical leadership to drive design-in of Renesas MCUs, SoCs, analog and power products for automotive OEM customers (IVI, ADAS, xEV, vehicle controls). Work with customer engineering teams and internal product, applications and marketing teams to define product requirements and system solutions.

Experience Level

Senior. The role expects experienced FAEs with significant automotive customer-facing experience (the posting specifies 5+ years of related FAE experience).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities focus on technical account leadership, system-level solution definition, and hands-on support for automotive projects.

• Drive design-in activities across Renesas' automotive product portfolio (MCU, SoC, analog, power) with OEM customers.
• Define customer-driven product requirements and collaborate with technical marketing and applications teams on new product definitions.
• Act as technical consultant to customer engineering teams during application development and system bring-up.
• Translate customer system requirements and market trends into system value propositions and product roadmaps.
• Advise on product architectures and partner ecosystems to optimize system designs.
• Manage technical projects with Sales and Marketing to achieve design-in targets.
• Maintain and expand relationships with OEM engineering departments and global cross-functional teams.
• Lead technical discussions with system architects and application engineers to define application roadmaps and requirements.
• Develop application documentation and system demonstrators (application notes, whitepapers, demo systems) combining hardware and software.
• Perform lab measurements, testing and technical presentations/seminars for customers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for the role. Language requirements are specified separately below.

• 5+ years of field applications engineering experience working with automotive customers and applications.
• Deep knowledge of semiconductors (SoC, MCU, analog and power products) and system-level solutioning.
• Experience with OS/frameworks (Linux, QNX, AUTOSAR, RTOS) and multi-threaded programming; strong fundamentals in IPC and OS concepts.
• Working knowledge of automotive functional safety and cybersecurity concepts.
• Proficiency in power and thermal management at the system level and in vehicle architecture/network design.
• Hands-on system bring-up, testing, debugging and use of lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).
• Ability to define product value propositions and collaborate with product marketing and system architects.
• Fluent Japanese for customer-facing activities; conversational English for internal reporting and collaboration.
