Job Title
Senior Electrical Engineer – ASIC/FPGA
Role Summary
Design, implement, verify, and integrate high-performance digital ASICs and FPGAs for aerospace and defense systems. Work within an engineering project team in Cedar Rapids, IA to deliver RTL architecture, timing closure, verification, and system integration.
Experience Level
Senior — posting specifies a minimum of 5 years relevant experience (or 3 years with an advanced degree).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Capture requirements and define ASIC/FPGA digital architecture and RTL design.
- Develop RTL, perform timing analysis and closure, and implement verification strategies.
- Create and maintain verification testbenches using SystemVerilog; run simulations and debug RTL.
- Integrate designs into system-level hardware and validate in the lab.
- Recommend tools and process improvements for the ASIC/FPGA design flow.
- Provide technical leadership: estimate effort, break down work, plan activities, and report status for program pursuits.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills:
- Active and transferable U.S. government security clearance required prior to start date.
- U.S. citizenship required for security clearance eligibility.
- Proven RTL coding and simulation experience in Verilog or VHDL.
- Experience in digital circuit architecture, resource tradeoffs, timing analysis, and timing closure.
- Testbench development and RTL verification experience using SystemVerilog.
- Proficiency with ASIC/FPGA simulation and synthesis tools (e.g., ModelSim, Synplify, Quartus, Vivado).
- Familiarity with revision control concepts and tools (e.g., Git, Subversion).
Nice-to-have:
- Knowledge of chip-level verification methodologies (constrained random, functional coverage).
- ASIC/FPGA lab validation experience and familiarity with Design for Test (DFT) and manufacturability.
- Proficiency in Unix and scripting; experience with C/C++ or Perl.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 3 years' experience. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a specific degree.
