Job Title

Sr. BSP Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and maintain hardware diagnostic firmware and tools for wireline switch platforms to support bring-up, validation, manufacturing, and field debug across the full product lifecycle.

Work with hardware, BMC, BIOS, SONiC, and validation teams to deliver a diagnostic suite used from EVT through mass production and RMA analysis.

Experience Level

Senior-level role. The posting specifies senior title and expects demonstrated hands-on diagnostics and product-cycle support; no explicit years-of-experience requirement was given.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, and operating diagnostic software and test flows for switch platforms.

  • Design, develop, and maintain diagnostic firmware and utilities (ONIE-launched DIAG environments) for wireline switch platforms.
  • Create hardware test coverage for ASIC, CPU, DDR, storage (SPI/eMMC/SSD), PCIe, USB, I2C/PMBus devices, CPLD/FPGA, fans/thermal/power, optical modules, and front-panel ports.
  • Implement port-level tests: link bring-up, PRBS, BER, eye margin, loopback (MAC/PCS/PMA), traffic generation, and signal integrity checks.
  • Develop and execute manufacturing test flows (ATE / FATP / system-level) and integrate diagnostics into factory provisioning.
  • Support hardware bring-up and act as first responder on board-level issues; isolate failures across silicon/board/firmware boundaries.
  • Automate diagnostics: scripting, log parsing, pass/fail criteria, and reporting infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with BMC, BIOS, and SONiC teams on hardware abstraction, sensor access, and recovery paths.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis of field returns and customer hardware issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for the role.

  • Hands-on experience developing hardware diagnostics, BIST, or low-level validation tools on server, switch, or embedded platforms.
  • Strong C/C++ programming and debugging skills; familiar with gdb, JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Solid Linux user-space and kernel-space development experience; comfortable in ONIE / busybox / minimal Linux environments.
  • Working knowledge of low-level hardware interfaces: I2C, PMBus, SPI, UART, JTAG, GPIO, MDIO, PCIe.
  • Familiarity with switch hardware concepts: switch ASIC architecture, SerDes, MAC/PCS/PHY layers, and optical module management (CMIS / SFF-8636).
  • Ability to read schematics, board layouts, and component datasheets; experience working in hardware lab environments.
  • Experience supporting at least one full hardware product cycle (EVT β†’ DVT β†’ PVT β†’ MP).
  • Experience developing manufacturing test flows and integrating diagnostics with operations.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with ONIE, busybox, automation for ATE/FATP, and familiarity with Tomahawk 5 / Teralynx-class systems.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (as stated). No explicit mention of acceptable equivalent experience was provided in the source.
