Senior Application Engineer
Role Summary
Provide application engineering support for power-management integrated circuits (ICs) including IC evaluation, reference design and customer technical support. Work with customers, FAEs, sales and internal design teams to validate IC functionality, develop evaluation kits and reference schematics/PCBs, and produce technical collateral.
Experience Level
Senior (Professional). The posting specifies at least 2 years of experience in power electronics or the semiconductor industry.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include hands-on IC evaluation, customer support, and development of design resources and documentation.
- Evaluate new IC functionality and support new IC spins through testing and direct customer assistance.
- Design evaluation kits and custom reference design schematics and PCBs.
- Create and maintain technical documentation: datasheets, application notes, evaluation reports and customer presentations.
- Provide system-level solutions to customers, field applications engineers (FAEs) and sales teams.
- Collaborate with System and Design Engineering to define and test new IC functionality.
- Generate competitive analysis and training materials for Sales, FAEs and customers.
- Support customer troubleshooting to help grow revenue.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional abilities.
- Hands-on lab experience with high-frequency switching power supplies (bucks, buck-boosts, boosts, battery chargers, PMICs, LDOs).
- Strong knowledge of analog and mixed-signal board-level design, including PCB layout guidelines for high switching-frequency applications.
- Experience with PCB schematic capture and layout tools.
- Understanding of I2C protocol, basic digital logic, and USB protocols.
- Soldering and rework skills for prototype and evaluation work.
- Ability to communicate technical subject matter clearly in writing and verbally.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally and independently; prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Self-starter who can identify and improve processes and procedures.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience producing competitive analyses and training materials for sales/field teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with at least 2 years of experience in power electronics or the semiconductor industry (per the posting).
