Sr AI Driver Architect - Neuromorphic Computing
Intel CorporationJob Title
Sr AI Driver Architect - Neuromorphic Computing
Role Summary
Architect and lead development of device drivers and firmware for a product-grade neuromorphic AI execution stack targeting edge and robotic systems. Deliver a robust, secure, and performant software foundation from pre-silicon through production release while collaborating across hardware, runtime, compiler, validation, and customer teams.
Role sits within a hybrid, vertically integrated incubation team focused on commercializing neuromorphic technology.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical background: 10+ years in systems software (C/C++), with 5+ years developing and shipping production device drivers or firmware and 5+ years leading driver/firmware architecture and bring-up for complex hardware platforms.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Define technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for neuromorphic drivers and firmware and contribute hands-on to designs.
- Architect, develop, and optimize driver/firmware components for command submission, execution control, memory mapping, data movement, interrupts, power management, and reset/recovery.
- Partner with hardware architects to define HW/SW interfaces and lead software bring-up from pre-silicon modeling/emulation to post-silicon power-on and tuning.
- Own production readiness: security, reliability, diagnosability, serviceability, validation, and field support.
- Collaborate with runtime, compiler, application, and validation teams and with external partners to translate platform and workload requirements into software capabilities.
- Provide technical leadership, establish engineering practices, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications:
- 5+ years developing and shipping production device drivers and/or device firmware or comparable low-level systems software for accelerators, GPUs, or complex hardware devices.
- 5+ years leading architecture and design of driver or firmware subsystems for complex hardware platforms.
- 5+ years defining HW/SW interfaces and leading software bring-up across pre-silicon virtual platforms/emulation and post-silicon validation.
- 5+ years designing for production readiness: security, reliability, recovery, tracing, telemetry, and diagnostics across HW/firmware/driver/OS/runtime boundaries.
- 5+ years mentoring engineers and leading cross-functional delivery.
- 10+ years hands-on development of maintainable, production-grade systems software in C/C++; proficiency with Python for tooling, automation, and validation.
- Familiarity with disciplined engineering practices: design/code reviews, profiling, benchmarking, regression testing, build/toolchain management, and CI/CD.
- 1+ years hands-on experience using AI agents to design, implement, test, or review production code.
Nice-to-have:
- Linux device driver development, embedded or real-time Linux, or RTOS-based firmware.
- Integration experience with runtimes/programming models (oneAPI Level Zero, OpenVINO, CUDA, SYCL, OpenCL).
- Platform security experience (secure boot, firmware signing/attestation, update and recovery flows).
- Experience with multi-chip accelerator systems, device-to-device interconnects, PCIe-attached and SoC-integrated form factors.
- Experience with parallel/spatial/dataflow/event-driven accelerators, HW/SW co-design, simulation/emulation model development, or performance modeling.
- Experience delivering embedded/edge accelerator platforms under real-time, reliability, or power constraints; familiarity with robotics ecosystems such as ROS 2.
- Prior open-source contributions.
Education Requirements
BSc, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
