Space Systems FPGA & VLSI Engineer

Role Summary

Design-focused RTL/FPGA engineer responsible for SystemVerilog RTL design, FPGA implementation and validation, and integration with verification, ASIC, and software teams to deliver timing-safe, high-performance hardware for a LEO satellite system.

This is a full-time, exempt role based in Saratoga, CA, with opportunity to contribute to next-generation space communications.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Candidates are expected to have practical experience delivering RTL and FPGA designs; typical hiring range is approximately 3–7 years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include:

• Author and review SystemVerilog RTL for new hardware features and subsystems.
• Develop FPGA implementations, constraints, and perform timing closure and static timing analysis.
• Validate FPGA platforms on hardware: bring-up, lab testing, debugging, and performance characterization.
• Collaborate with verification, ASIC, and software teams to ensure correct integration and system-level behavior.
• Optimize designs for timing, power, area, and reliability for LEO satellite environments.
• Participate in design reviews, create technical documentation, and hand off designs to downstream teams.

Requirements

Required and desirable skills and experience.

• Must-have: Proven experience designing SystemVerilog RTL and delivering FPGA implementations and platform validation.
• Must-have: Hands-on experience with timing-aware design: constraints (SDC), STA, and timing closure workflows.
• Must-have: Experience with hardware bring-up, lab debugging, and working cross-functionally with verification, ASIC, and software engineers.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with ASIC/VLSI flows, tapeout processes, or prior work on space or satellite systems.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with high-speed interfaces/SerDes, FPGA vendor toolflows (e.g., Xilinx/Intel), and scripting for automation (Python, Tcl).
