Software Verification Engineer (Co-op/Intern)

Role Summary

Join the R&D Software Design Verification team in Ottawa to develop and validate automated test solutions for next-generation optical switches. This is a temporary co-op/intern role focused on test automation, data collection and analysis, and cross-discipline collaboration to improve product quality and robustness.

Available terms: 4-month (Jan–Apr 2027), 8-month (Jan–Aug 2027, preferred), or 12-month (Jan–Dec 2027). Pay range: $24–35/hr.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Co-op or internship. Candidates should be current post-secondary students; typical expectation is at least 2+ years of university study in a relevant program.

Responsibilities

Contribute to software verification and automated testing for optical products. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain automated test solutions and scripts for optical switches.
  • Collect, process and analyze test data to drive product improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues observed during verification.
  • Work closely with Optical, Hardware, Software, Firmware, Design Authority, and Project Management teams.
  • Analyze and characterize device failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Improve product quality, reliability, and test robustness through software verification activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical and professional skills for successful performance in this internship:

  • Strong object-oriented software design and implementation skills (any language).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Eligible to complete a background check.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Experience with C#, Python, bash scripting, and Linux.
  • Experience with instrumentation and test automation, including interacting with devices under test and test equipment.
  • Understanding of optical systems.

Education Requirements

2+ years toward a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science or equivalent; candidates must be currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution. Equivalent practical experience may be considered where stated.
