Software Validation Engineer

Role Summary

As a Software Validation Engineer you will develop and execute tests to ensure the quality and reliability of software for programmable logic devices. You will collaborate with software, hardware design, and applications teams to validate drivers, tools, IDEs, and embedded components, and maintain test environments and automation.

The role focuses on test design, automation, defect tracking, and continuous improvement of validation processes and methodologies.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typically requires 3+ years of experience in software validation, quality assurance, or testing.

Responsibilities

The engineer will design and run tests, automate validation, maintain test infrastructure, and report results to stakeholders.

  • Design, develop, and execute test plans and test cases for software components and systems (drivers, tools, IDEs).
  • Automate testing using scripting languages (Python, Perl, Bash, Tcl) and testing frameworks.
  • Maintain and configure test environments, including hardware setups and software configurations.
  • Identify, document, and track defects using bug tracking systems.
  • Analyze test results and generate reports for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and applications teams to ensure product testability.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on architecture and design for testability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of validation processes and methodologies.

Requirements

Core technical and interpersonal requirements; listed must-haves first, followed by desirable skills.

  • 3+ years of experience in software validation, quality assurance, or testing.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, Bash, Tcl) and experience building automation.
  • Experience with defect tracking systems (e.g., Jira, Bugzilla) and version control systems (e.g., Git, Perforce).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Must be eligible for any required U.S. export authorizations.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with hardware description languages (Verilog/VHDL), FPGA design flows, embedded systems, operating systems (Linux/Windows), and device drivers.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
