Software Engineering Manager

Role Summary

Manage and grow a team of software engineers and architects responsible for developing and validating system-level software across firmware, drivers, operating systems, applications, and platforms. Ensure delivery of high-quality software that supports Intel's product and technology objectives.

The role reports into the Data Center Group and focuses on technical leadership, program execution, cross-functional collaboration, and customer engagement.

Experience Level

Senior — 20+ years of software development experience, including 5+ years of direct people-management experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver technical leadership, people management, and execution for software initiatives across the stack.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers and architects; hire and manage performance and career development.
• Define technical direction and engineering strategy; set objectives and hold the team accountable for delivery.
• Oversee design, development, validation, debugging, optimization, and release of software across firmware, drivers, OS, applications, and platforms.
• Manage resources, schedules, and deliverables to achieve project milestones and quality targets.
• Collaborate with hardware engineering, validation, architecture, and product management to align software and system goals.
• Engage with customers and stakeholders to gather requirements, provide support, and incorporate feedback into product improvements.
• Communicate status and technical direction to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Comply with Position of Trust requirements, including consenting to and passing an extended background investigation.

Key qualifications and technical skills required and preferred for the role.

Must-have

• 20+ years of software development experience with demonstrated delivery of complex software products through the full lifecycle (requirements, design, development, validation, release, support).
• 5+ years of direct people-management experience leading software engineering teams.
• Technical depth in one or more relevant domains such as systems software, firmware, GPU/graphics software, AI/ML software, or cloud/distributed systems.
• Proven ability to manage cross-functional programs involving hardware, validation, architecture, and product teams.
• Experience driving execution, setting measurable goals, and managing timelines and resources.

Nice-to-have

• Strong C/C++ expertise.
• Experience with device drivers (KMD/UMD) and graphics APIs (DirectX, Vulkan, OpenGL).
• Experience with GPU architecture, compiler technology, runtime software, graphics stacks, hardware bring-up, emulation, validation, or silicon enablement.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics is listed as a minimum qualification.
