Software Engineering Internship (Fall 2026)

Role Summary

Interns will design and implement API solutions that integrate AI capabilities into Synopsys optical design software. Work focuses on prototyping Model Context Protocol (MCP) server components, cross-platform compatibility, and contributing to features used by engineering customers.

This is a 4-month, full-time internship starting September 2026 based in Vancouver, BC; the role is remote-eligible.

Experience Level

Internship — entry-level for penultimate or final-year Bachelor's or Master's students.

Responsibilities

Primary duties for this internship include:

• Design and implement C++ libraries and APIs that integrate with AI technologies.
• Prototype and evaluate MCP server implementations and alternative technical approaches.
• Develop and test cross-platform code (Linux and Windows) to ensure compatibility.
• Collaborate with distributed teams and document technical work clearly in writing.
• Deliver prototype or production-quality code under mentor guidance.

• Must-have: Experience designing and developing C++ libraries and APIs.
• Must-have: Experience with AI programming and agentic systems; familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar technologies.

• Must-have: Collaborative mindset and ability to work independently with distributed teams.
• Nice-to-have: Proficiency in C# and the .NET Framework.
• Nice-to-have: Linux and cross-platform development experience.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; candidates must be in their penultimate or final year of the degree program.
