Software Engineering Intern (Fall 2026, Co-op)

Role Summary

Contribute to the design and implementation of APIs and C++ libraries that integrate AI capabilities into Synopsys optical design software. Work on prototypes and production-quality code to enable AI-assisted workflows and improved software interoperability.

Full-time, 4-month internship starting September 2026. Position based in Vancouver, BC, Canada; remote eligible.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Intended for students in their penultimate or final year of a Bachelor's or Master's program.

Responsibilities

Deliver prototypes and implementations that enable AI interactions and cross-platform compatibility.

• Design and implement C++ libraries and API interfaces for optical design tools.
• Prototype and evaluate Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar server-based AI interaction approaches.
• Compare and recommend technical approaches for new API designs.
• Develop and test solutions on Linux and Windows to ensure cross-platform compatibility.
• Document technical work and communicate results to distributed team members.

Requirements

Key technical skills and attributes required or strongly preferred.

• Experience designing and developing C++ libraries and APIs.
• Experience with AI programming and agentic systems; familiarity with MCP concepts is expected.
• Strong written communication and ability to summarize technical work.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with distributed teams.
• Linux and cross-platform development experience (asset).
• Proficiency in C# and .NET Framework (highly desirable).

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; candidates must be in their penultimate or final year of the degree program.
