Job Title

Software Engineering Director - AI

Role Summary

Lead development and production deployment of generative and agentic AI capabilities for Siemens EDA across the semiconductor and electronic systems design lifecycle. Serve as a technical and organizational leader coordinating product divisions, R&D, customers, foundries, and ecosystem partners to deliver scalable, verifiable AI-powered design workflows.

Experience Level

Senior - requires extensive engineering leadership: typically 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading teams that deliver commercial EDA platforms, AI-enabled engineering systems, distributed infrastructure, or production-grade software for complex semiconductor design flows.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining strategy, aligning across product teams, and delivering production-grade AI capabilities for EDA workflows.

  • Define and execute the engineering roadmap for generative and agentic AI across EDA workflows (multi-agent orchestration, autonomous exploration, natural-language tool control, AI-driven design intelligence).
  • Partner with R&D, product management, and platform teams across the Siemens EDA portfolio to establish shared platform layers, unified APIs, reusable infrastructure, and consistent telemetry.
  • Act as senior technical advisor to strategic customers; lead technical evaluations, design reviews, and joint innovation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with foundries, IP providers, cloud partners, and ecosystem collaborators to integrate PDKs, design rules, and signoff collateral while ensuring governance, auditability, and IP protection.
  • Architect scalable agent runtimes and tool-calling protocols that integrate with Siemens EDA and third-party tools, supporting deterministic fallbacks and signoff-quality validation.
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead teams of applied AI engineers, EDA domain experts, agentic systems architects, and MLOps/AgentOps engineers; drive disciplined execution and product-quality engineering practices.
  • Ensure industrial-grade AI properties: accuracy, verifiability, robustness, usability, security, and customer trust are designed into solutions.

Requirements

Key technical and leadership requirements. Degree requirements are summarized separately under Education Requirements.

  • Proven engineering leadership with experience driving large, matrixed organizations and building unified architectural standards across distributed product divisions.
  • Executive customer acumen: experience leading technical discovery, executive briefings, customer advisory boards, and joint innovation with semiconductor or hyperscale customers.
  • Hands-on architectural experience with multi-agent orchestration, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, knowledge graphs, graph-based models for circuits/netlists, and domain-adapted LLMs for RTL and design collateral.
  • Deep semiconductor and EDA domain fluency across architecture exploration, RTL, implementation, physical verification, signoff, test, custom IC and PCB/system design, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Strong software systems skills: modern C++ (17/20), Python, distributed microservices, GPU inference scaling, and on-prem/hybrid HPC execution environments.
  • Experience deploying secure enterprise-grade AI solutions (on-premises, hybrid, air-gapped, multi-tenant) with access control, auditability, and IP protection.
  • Track record of converting PoCs or lighthouse deployments into production-scale product adoption and measurable business impact.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills to align stakeholders and drive delivery.

Education Requirements

Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
