Software Engineer - Simulators

Role Summary

Design and implement cycle-accurate simulators for MatX custom hardware to enable hardware-software co-design and early development of the full software stack. Work on a cross-functional chip simulation team that provides models and tooling used by architecture, verification, compiler, and runtime teams.

Mid-level — typically requires 5+ years of software development experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Design and implement a Rust-based, cycle-accurate chip simulator of MatX custom hardware.
  • Collaborate with architecture, verification/validation, compiler, and runtime teams to define simulator requirements and validate models.
  • Build and refine hardware models that shape silicon decisions.
  • Develop tooling and infrastructure for correlation, debugging, testing, and performance analysis.
  • Profile, benchmark, and optimize simulator code for performance and maintainability.
  • Leverage AI development tools to accelerate implementation and testing workflows.

Requirements

Must-have skills, constraints, and working conditions.

  • Minimum 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficiency in Rust, or a strong interest and demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly.
  • Strong software engineering practices with a focus on maintainability and performance.
  • Solid foundation in computer architecture fundamentals.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work from MatX Mountain View, CA office three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday).
  • Authorization to work in the United States and ability to comply with applicable U.S. export control restrictions for the role.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience (as stated in the posting).
