Software Engineer, Simulation
Meta PlatformsJob Title
Software Engineer, Simulation
Role Summary
Join the MTIA (Meta Training and Inference Accelerator) software team to build simulators and early software platforms used for pre-silicon development. The role develops simulation and emulation infrastructure to enable software and firmware development, performance analysis, and integration with hardware design teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting specifies 5+ years of experience with C++ and 5+ years with Python and expects experience in performance measurement for distributed model training and inference.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building and maintaining simulation platforms, modeling accelerator behavior, and supporting performance evaluation.
- Develop and maintain simulation and hardware emulation platforms for accelerators.
- Implement simulation models for accelerator ASICs and evaluate data-center performance scenarios.
- Measure and optimize performance for collective communications, distributed training, and inference.
- Support networking and compute hardware acceleration techniques to improve ML performance.
- Perform architectural analysis for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Use instruction set simulators to define and validate firmware for accelerators.
- Collaborate with architects, hardware teams, and cross-functional partners to integrate simulation results into designs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items follow.
- 5+ years developing C++ codebases.
- 5+ years developing Python codebases.
- Proven experience with performance measurement, benchmarking, and optimization for collective communications and distributed, at-scale model training and inference.
- Experience integrating simulation results into system design and working with cross-functional teams.
- Strong debugging, analysis, and systems-level reasoning skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with SystemC, QEMU, or virtual platform development.
- Familiarity with NCCL, PyTorch, CUDA, and other ML/HPC tooling.
- Experience in hardware accelerators, AI infrastructure, or high-performance computing, particularly interconnect and collective operations.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools into workflows and experience with responsible/ethical AI practices.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other relevant technical fields are also mentioned as qualifications; equivalent practical experience is accepted.
