Job Title

Software Engineer, Semiconductor Process and Device Simulators

Role Summary

Join the Calibre R&D team to design and implement high-performance simulation and diagnostic software for semiconductor process and device modeling. You will develop numerical algorithms, scalable solvers, and accelerated execution paths to enable high-fidelity, high-throughput simulation for advanced technology nodes.

This role involves collaborating with domain experts and product teams to deliver production-quality software used in semiconductor manufacturing workflows.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically candidates with ~5+ years of relevant research or industry experience; advanced degree holders (PhD) are preferred.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include software development, numerical algorithm implementation, and performance engineering for simulation tools:

  • Design and implement numerical methods and PDE/linear solvers for process and device simulation.
  • Develop and optimize high-performance code for distributed and GPU-accelerated execution.
  • Integrate ML/AI surrogate models where they accelerate workflows and reduce runtimes.
  • Implement CI/CD, automated regression testing, and manage library dependencies for reliable releases.
  • Work with product and domain experts to validate models, reproduce results, and support customer use cases.
  • Profile and optimize performance across CPU/GPU/cloud/HPC environments and job schedulers.
  • Produce technical documentation, tests, and long-running simulation workflow management.

Requirements

Technical must-haves and useful complementary skills.

  • Must-have: Proficiency in C/C++ and Python; experience with CUDA or other GPU programming.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with high-performance computing: MPI or distributed processing, performance profiling, and parallelization techniques.
  • Must-have: Practical experience implementing numerical algorithms, solvers, or computational geometry in production code.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with Git-based workflows, CI/CD, automated regression testing, and release management.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with SLURM or HPC schedulers, cloud execution, and large-dataset visualization.
  • Nice-to-have: GUI and visualization frameworks (Qt/QML, PySide), 3D rendering pipelines, and ML/AI model integration.
  • Attributes: Strong problem-solving, accurate task estimation, and effective cross-functional collaboration.

Education Requirements

PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, etc.), or a Master’s degree plus 5+ years of relevant research or industry experience.
