Software Engineer - Semiconductor Process and Device Simulators
SiemensJob Title
Software Engineer - Semiconductor Process and Device Simulators
Role Summary
Join the Calibre R&D team to design, implement, and optimize high-fidelity simulation and diagnostic tools for semiconductor process and device modeling. Work on numerical solvers, high-performance computing, GPU acceleration, AI/ML surrogates, and visualization to support advanced-node manufacturing and high-volume production.
Experience Level
Mid-level; typically 3–7 years of relevant research or software development experience. Candidates with advanced research backgrounds and several years of industry experience are preferred.
Responsibilities
Own development and delivery of high-performance simulation components and supporting infrastructure.
- Research, design, and implement numerical algorithms and solvers for process and device simulation (FEM/FD/FVM/BEM, linear/PDE solvers, optimization).
- Develop and optimize code in C/C++ and CUDA for CPU and GPU execution; integrate Python-based tooling and workflows.
- Implement distributed and HPC solutions using MPI and cluster schedulers; enable cloud execution where appropriate.
- Integrate AI/ML surrogate models and statistical methods to accelerate simulations and analyses.
- Build and maintain software infrastructure: Git-based CI/CD, automated regression testing, library dependency and release management.
- Create visualization and GUI components for large datasets and long-running simulation workflows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, estimate development tasks, and deliver production-quality software on schedule.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python; experience with CUDA and GPU programming.
- Experience implementing numerical methods and solvers for PDEs, linear systems, eigenproblems, or related scientific-computing tasks.
- Experience with distributed processing and MPI; familiarity with HPC environments and job schedulers.
- Practical software-engineering skills: Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, dependency management, and release processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deliver on schedule; collaborative team mindset.
- Ability to estimate development tasks and participate in cross-team design and code reviews.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with GUI frameworks (Qt/QML, PySide) and 3D scientific visualization or large-dataset rendering.
- Familiarity with SLURM, cloud execution platforms, Monte Carlo methods, computational geometry, and convex optimization.
- Experience applying AI/ML techniques as surrogate models for simulation acceleration.
Education Requirements
PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, etc.), or a Master’s degree plus 5+ years of research/industry experience. Fields listed include Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, and related engineering disciplines; equivalent practical experience is considered.
