Job Title

Software Engineer – Semiconductor Process and Device Simulators

Role Summary

Join the Calibre R&D team to design and implement high-performance simulation and analysis software used in semiconductor process and device modeling. You will develop numerical methods, scalable solvers, and system-level infrastructure to enable high-throughput, accurate simulations for advanced technology nodes and packaging.

This role emphasizes scientific computing, HPC, GPU acceleration, and collaboration with domain experts to deliver production-quality tools for semiconductor manufacturing.

Experience Level

Mid-level; candidates are expected to have advanced technical experience in scientific computing and high-performance computing. The posting specifies PhD or equivalent experience (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Deliver software and algorithms that enable scalable, high-fidelity semiconductor simulations.

  • Design and implement numerical algorithms and PDE/linear solvers for process and device simulation.
  • Develop and optimize code for distributed and GPU-accelerated execution.
  • Integrate algorithms into production-grade software with CI/CD, regression testing, and release management.
  • Collaborate with domain scientists and product teams to define requirements and validate results against physical models.
  • Build tooling for large-data visualization and long-running simulation workflow management.
  • Estimate development tasks, prioritize work, and deliver features on schedule.
  • Contribute to performance tuning, scalability testing, and cloud/HPC deployment (e.g., SLURM).

Requirements

See Education Requirements for formal degree/experience expectations. The list below focuses on technical and practical must-have and nice-to-have skills.

  • Must-have: Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python; experience with CUDA or other GPU programming models.
  • Experience with parallel and distributed programming (MPI, multi-threading) and performance optimization.
  • Practical experience with numerical methods relevant to scientific computing (solvers, discretizations, numerical stability).
  • Familiarity with Git-based workflows, CI/CD, automated regression testing, and software release processes.
  • Ability to estimate tasks, debug complex numerical issues, and deliver reliable production software.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with GUI frameworks (Qt/QML, PySide), 3D scientific visualization, cloud execution, HPC schedulers (SLURM), and AI/ML surrogate modeling.

Education Requirements

PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, etc.), or a Master’s degree plus 5+ years of research/industry experience. Fields of study include computer science, applied math, and related engineering disciplines. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable as described above.
