Software Engineer, Scale Out
TenstorrentJob Title
Software Engineer, Scale Out
Role Summary
Develop and optimize low-level systems software that interfaces with Tenstorrent AI hardware to deliver scalable, high-performance infrastructure for inference and training workloads. The role is on a hybrid team based in Toronto working close to hardware, runtimes, and distributed software stacks.
Work with hardware and software teams to support bring-up, testing, and deployment of production infrastructure for distributed accelerator systems.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Level - Mid-Career). The posting does not specify required years of experience; Tenstorrent is open to contributors of various seniorities.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on building and maintaining performance-critical system software that runs close to hardware and across compute nodes.
- Design, implement, and maintain core infrastructure and low-level libraries that interface with Tenstorrent hardware.
- Develop APIs and synchronization primitives for communication across nodes in a distributed environment.
- Optimize system-level software for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Support hardware bring-up, system testing, and deployment with cross-functional teams.
- Integrate infrastructure components with internal programming models, tools, and runtimes.
- Use profiling and tracing tools to diagnose and improve performance in multi-node systems.
Requirements
Clear must-have systems engineering skills and practical experience working near hardware and in Linux environments. Employment is contingent on export-control eligibility; candidates may need U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or a license under U.S. export regulations.
Must-have
- Strong C or C++ systems programming experience; comfortable with low-level programming models.
- Deep understanding of memory, threading, I/O, and low-level execution behavior.
- Experience building low-level software, drivers, embedded systems, or performance-critical infrastructure.
- Proficiency with Linux systems programming and debugging/profiling tools (gdb, strace, perf, etc.).
- Ability to work closely with hardware teams during bring-up and testing.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with distributed systems, inter-node communication, and synchronization at scale.
- Background in performance tuning across software, runtime, and hardware layers.
- Familiarity with accelerator architectures or RISC-V-based systems.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
