Job Title

Software Engineer, Rust

Role Summary

Build production Rust systems software that runs close to semiconductor fabrication hardware. You will develop Linux applications, control logic, telemetry, and operator-facing tools used to operate and scale fab2's fabrication equipment.

This is a hands-on systems role working with firmware, electrical, mechanical, and process teams; work directly affects tool performance, uptime, and fab throughput.

Experience Level

Mid-level. No specific years-of-experience requirement stated.

Responsibilities

Deliver end-to-end software features that control and monitor fabrication tools and support production workflows.

  • Design and implement real-time Linux applications for equipment control and process automation.
  • Design and implement finite-state machines for tool operation.
  • Develop data acquisition, telemetry, metrology, and image-processing software.
  • Implement gRPC services and Protocol Buffer APIs for interprocess and cross-system communication.
  • Build operator interfaces for operations, diagnostics, and data visualization.
  • Own major features end-to-end in partnership with hardware and process engineering teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience required to succeed in this role.

  • Strong proficiency in Rust for systems-level Linux applications.
  • Hands-on Python experience in data analysis, computer vision, diagnostics, or scientific computing.
  • Proven experience shipping Linux application software such as daemons, services, IPC, and real-time or near-real-time systems.
  • Solid operating systems fundamentals: memory management, performance, and concurrency.
  • Familiarity with gRPC and Protocol Buffers or comparable RPC/serialization frameworks.
  • Experience working across multiple projects, technical domains, and engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to comply with U.S. export control requirements (employment contingent on compliance).

Nice-to-have

  • Background in semiconductors, industrial automation, or hardware-intensive manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux build systems (Yocto, Buildroot) or microcontroller firmware.
  • Experience with application performance profiling and latency optimization.
  • Interest or experience in applied math, numerical methods, or reliability engineering (FMEA).

Education Requirements

BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
