Software Engineer - Principal

Role Summary

Principal engineer on the QuestaSim (simulation) R&D team responsible for architecting algorithms and software solutions for simulation tools. Work with senior engineers to define and deliver strategic technical initiatives from design through production.

Focus areas include large-scale system architecture, compiler and optimization work, and improving production-quality codebases in a fast-paced development environment.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 15–25 years of professional software engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, and improving simulation software components and algorithms.

  • Architect and develop advanced algorithms and software design solutions for simulation tools.
  • Lead conceptualization, definition, and implementation of complex and open-ended problem scopes.
  • Design, implement, and enhance production-quality components, engines, and algorithms; refactor and improve existing codebases.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to solve complex software problems and deliver project milestones.
  • Apply compiler concepts and optimizations to improve tool performance and correctness.
  • Take ownership of strategic initiatives from conception through delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement through disciplined development practices and technical leadership.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.

  • 15–25 years of professional software engineering experience, including architecting and implementing large-scale systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C and C++ with solid knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
  • Deep expertise in compiler concepts and optimizations.
  • Proven experience on UNIX and/or Linux platforms.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a record of delivering results independently.
  • Nice-to-have: prior experience in EDA, simulation tools (e.g., QuestaSim), or related domains.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
