Software Engineer, Metal Runtime (Core Systems)

Role Summary

Work on low-level runtime software that executes directly on Tenstorrent AI accelerators. The team builds and optimizes bare-metal runtime systems focused on scheduling, memory movement, and efficient execution across massively parallel processors.

This is a systems-facing engineering role at the hardware/software boundary, collaborating closely with hardware teams to maximize performance and resource utilization.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include implementing and tuning runtime components that drive accelerator performance.

  • Design, build, and optimize the Metal runtime for Tenstorrent AI accelerators.
  • Implement bare-metal systems for compute execution, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Optimize memory movement and data flow across massively parallel hardware.
  • Work with hardware engineers to identify and exploit architecture-level performance opportunities.
  • Debug, analyze, and tune runtime behavior across complex and distributed systems.
  • Write fast, parallel code and reasoning about threads, processors, and memory movement.

  • Strong proficiency in C or C++ and systems programming.
  • Experience writing fast, parallel code across multiple processors/threads.
  • Comfortable working close to hardware and debugging at the hardware/software boundary.

  • Ability to analyze and tune runtime behavior in complex, distributed environments.
  • Collaborative mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
