Software Engineer in Test (Python)

Role Summary

Join the Budapest Software Quality Assurance team to develop, run and maintain automated tests for Silicon Labs' embedded wireless products, with a focus on Bluetooth Low Energy features and SiSDK/Firmware quality.

You will validate embedded products using a Python-based test framework, integrate tests into CI, and collaborate with developers and product managers across Budapest, Espoo and global SQA teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early-career — minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a Software Developer in Test or Software QA Engineer.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for the role include:

• Design and implement pytest-based automated tests for embedded wireless solutions.
• Execute functional and non-functional automated tests for Bluetooth Low Energy and embedded product features.
• Integrate and automate test execution in continuous integration pipelines (CI) and monitor test runs.
• Maintain, manage, and improve automated test scripts and test frameworks.
• Identify, report, and investigate defects; communicate results and progress to developers and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with application engineers to identify use cases that require automated coverage.
• Use generative AI tools to assist development and improve productivity where appropriate.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

• Minimum 2 years' experience as a software developer in test or software QA engineer.
• Strong Python programming skills and hands-on automation experience.
• Experience with pytest and automated test frameworks.
• Familiarity with CI tools and automation (e.g. Jenkins), version control (Git/GitHub), and containerization (Docker).
• Practical experience with Windows and Linux test environments and SQL databases.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English and work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Experience using AI-powered developer tools to increase productivity.

Nice-to-have:

• Interest or experience in IoT wireless protocols and embedded systems.
• Experience or curiosity about embedded C/C++ development.

Education Requirements

BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or a related field. ISTQB certification is listed as a plus.
