Job Title

Software Engineer II - Radiation Effects Tooling

Role Summary

Develop and deploy software tooling for space-environment analysis and hardware prototype/test systems. Work within the Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE) team to build analysis tools, hardware test frameworks, and proprietary MBSE software to support flight hardware verification and test automation.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role expects a minimum of 2+ years of professional software development experience, preferably with test systems.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development of test and analysis tooling, integration with hardware, and maintaining software quality and deployment processes.

  • Develop and maintain hardware integration and test code for electronic test hardware.
  • Extend common software architecture and libraries; write and optimize test code and frameworks.
  • Create user interfaces and participate in hardware demos using LabVIEW and Python.
  • Support test execution at external test facilities and oversee test system operations.
  • Collaborate with analysis and test engineers to remove blockers and accelerate development cycles.
  • Establish and follow software best practices; implement build, test, and deployment automation.
  • Own and evolve proprietary Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) software.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and eligibility requirements.

  • 2+ years of software development experience, ideally for test systems (examples: LabVIEW, Python), with object-oriented design and software component development.
  • Experience designing simple custom hardware drivers for electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, etc.).
  • Experience with build, test, and deployment automation.
  • Ability to work in laboratory and test environments and collaborate directly with test engineers.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee).

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical Engineering is listed as the baseline. Other engineering or science degrees or equivalent work history will be considered if experience meets the role's responsibilities. National Instruments LabVIEW certifications (CLD, CLA, CLED, or Professional Instructor) are listed as preferred credentials.

Requirements (Nice-to-have)

Preferred skills and experiences that strengthen candidacy.

  • 2+ years working with real-time systems (LinuxRT, Phar-Lap).
  • Proficiency in Python, C/C++, GitLab, SQL, I2C, SPI, and hardware-description languages (VHDL or Verilog).
  • Experience with AI frameworks and LLMs (LangChain, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) and configuring generative AI for data analysis.
  • Experience with National Instruments hardware, TestStand, LabVIEW Real-Time, and FPGA deployment.
  • Familiarity with actor frameworks, unit testing, validation, advanced architectures, and hardware/software abstraction layers.
  • Experience with electrical control systems and industrial sensors/actuators; working in test environments.
  • Project management experience and ability to deliver on-time and on-budget; willingness to travel up to 10%.
