Role Summary

Join the Innovus and Genus database team in Cadence’s Digital Design Implementation (DDI) business unit to design and implement database infrastructure that supports EDA tools for large-scale IC design. The role focuses on performance, scalability, reliability, and reducing memory footprint for very large designs.

This position supports hybrid work at the Munich (Feldkirchen) or Cambridge offices and involves close collaboration with application engineering and customer-facing teams across time zones.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Minimum of 2 years of professional software development experience in a relevant engineering environment.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain database infrastructure and APIs for EDA tools; investigate issues; and contribute to architecture and performance improvements.

• Design, develop, and optimize database infrastructure, data models, APIs, and class implementations.
• Investigate and resolve customer-reported defects with root-cause analysis and timely fixes.
• Profile and benchmark APIs and code to improve performance and code quality.
• Reduce memory footprint to support very large IC designs.
• Contribute to technical design reviews and architectural decisions balancing performance and maintainability.
• Write clean, well-tested code and documentation according to engineering standards.
• Participate in agile ceremonies and collaborate effectively with distributed teams.
• Monitor relevant developments in EDA, database architecture, and AI-assisted development tools and share insights.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; followed by concise nice-to-have items.

• Minimum 2 years professional software development experience in a relevant engineering environment.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++ and best practices.
• Experience in UNIX/Linux development environments.
• Understanding of database architecture, IC design data models, and efficient data-access algorithms.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals: debugging, testing, performance analysis, and clean code practices.
• Ability to deliver robust fixes and clear root-cause analysis for customer issues.
• Nice-to-have: Tcl scripting experience in EDA/automation, familiarity with Verilog, knowledge of IEEE 1801 (UPF), and practical experience with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot).

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
