Job Title
Digital Modem Engineer
Role Summary
Lead design and development of custom, low-latency modem architectures for point-to-point wireless links. Work within the wireless team in Trading Infrastructure to develop physical-layer algorithms, build floating- and fixed-point models, and enable RTL implementation.
Experience Level
Mid-level β requires at least 5+ years of experience in digital modem system design and deployment.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include algorithm design, modeling, verification, and collaboration with implementation teams to deliver low-latency modem systems.
- Lead design, simulation, and realization of physical-layer wireless communication algorithms for low-latency point-to-point links.
- Develop modem and system models (floating-point and fixed-point) and run link-level simulations to evaluate performance and support sign-off.
- Analyze and optimize symbol-rate throughput, latency, and spectral occupancy.
- Design and evaluate pulse-shaping filters, carrier/symbol clock offset tracking/recovery, and adaptive equalization methods.
- Perform channel modeling, fixed-point analysis, and performance investigations that guide RTL development.
- Collaborate with digital designers and firmware engineers to deliver power- and area-efficient implementations.
- Support deployment, debugging, and performance verification of modem links in operational environments.
- Document designs, simulation results, and test procedures.
Requirements
Key qualifications and preferred skills.
-
Must-have: 5+ years experience designing, building, and deploying digital modem systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in transmit/receive pulse-shaping filters; carrier/symbol clock offset tracking and recovery; and adaptive equalization (blind, training-based, decision-directed).
- Experience with channel modeling, link-level simulation, and fixed-point design and analysis.
- Proficiency with Python, C/C++, and/or MATLAB for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
- Reliable and predictable availability.
-
Nice-to-have: experience implementing modem logic on FPGAs or ASICs; familiarity with RF/microwave components and PCB layout.
Education Requirements
MS or PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
