Software Engineer II

Role Summary

R&D software engineer on the SpectreFX FastSPICE simulation team responsible for developing and optimizing circuit simulation technologies for FastSPICE and mixed-signal flows. Work includes implementing algorithms, improving performance, diagnosing product issues, and delivering production-quality software.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Software Engineer II). Typical candidates have around 2+ years of relevant software development experience; strong new graduates are also considered.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include design, implementation, and maintenance of circuit simulation software and collaboration with cross-functional global teams.

  • Design, implement, and optimize C/C++ code for circuit simulation (SpectreFX / FastSPICE).
  • Profile and improve performance, memory use, and algorithmic efficiency.
  • Analyze and diagnose product issues; propose and implement fixes and enhancements.
  • Work with global engineering and product teams to define implementation plans aligned to Cadence product architecture.
  • Review code, maintain quality standards, and ensure production readiness on Unix/Linux platforms.
  • Engage with customer application analysis and translate requirements into technical solutions.

Requirements

  • Strong C/C++ software engineering skills in a Unix/Linux environment.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, adapt, and work collaboratively in cross-functional and global teams.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and experience delivering software in a production environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for engineering collaboration and customer-facing technical analysis.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with circuit simulation concepts (SPICE, FastSPICE, RF, mixed-signal) or prior EDA tool experience.

Education Requirements

BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics plus 2 years of C/C++ and EDA development experience, OR MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics. Fresh graduates with strong relevant backgrounds are explicitly welcomed.
