Software Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the Kernel & Firmware team in the Open Source Software group, focused on upstream Linux kernel work for Arm platforms. Based in the Budapest office with a hybrid working style, you will develop and upstream energy-aware scheduling and power-management features to improve platform support and reduce partners' time to market.
The team works on development platforms including software models, FPGAs, early silicon and shipping boards.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design, implement and analyse scheduling and power-management features (including Energy Aware Scheduling).
- Measure performance and power on real hardware platforms.
- Develop and test across software models, FPGA systems, development boards and shipping products.
- Upstream code and maintain existing Linux kernel features.
- Engage with and build consensus in the upstream Linux community.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Proven experience contributing to the Linux kernel and open source development.
- Strong knowledge of operating system development and debugging.
- Understanding of low-level computer systems and hardware behaviour.
- Excellent C programming skills; assembly experience is desirable.
- Strong analytical skills and strong written and spoken English; able to write documentation and mentor others.
- Professional, flexible approach to work and strong problem-solving ability.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with Arm architecture and toolchains.
- Experience with power management techniques and trade-offs.
- Experience in software optimisation, instrumentation and multicore systems.
- Familiarity with testing methodology, automated testing, embedded platforms or real-time operating systems.
- Scripting experience (Bash, Python, Perl, etc.).
No relocation package is available. If visa sponsorship is required, Arm will meet sponsorship costs for the employee only; fees for spouse/dependants are the candidate's responsibility.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or above in a STEM subject (or equivalent practical experience) is expected.
