Job Title

Software Engineer - Device Drivers

Role Summary

Develop and maintain device driver software for Ethernovia networking devices, including kernel and user-mode drivers, stack extensions, debug and test utilities, and automated tests. Integrate drivers with Linux and AUTOSAR communication stacks so applications, middleware and the OS can use hardware features.

Positions are based in Pune, India; remote work is considered on a case-by-case basis but willingness to locate to Pune is highly desirable.

Experience Level

Mid-level to Senior. Mid-level: approximately 3 years of relevant experience. Senior: approximately 7 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver architecture, design, implementation, testing and integration of device drivers as part of the Ethernovia SDK while following automotive functional safety practices.

  • Design, implement and maintain kernel and user-mode device drivers for networking/communication hardware.
  • Create stack extensions, debug and test utilities, and automated unit/system tests.
  • Integrate drivers with Linux and AUTOSAR communication stacks and OS device interfaces.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware and system teams to validate hardware features and performance.
  • Follow functional safety processes and software development best practices for safety-critical automotive systems.
  • Support debugging, profiling and performance optimization of high-performance networking drivers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 3–7 years of software engineering experience in device drivers or embedded systems (3 years for mid-level roles; 7 years for senior roles).
  • Proficient in C and C++.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, architecture, implementation and testing fundamentals.
  • Experience developing device drivers for communication devices (preferably Ethernet) and integrating with OS device interfaces.
  • Deep knowledge of operating systems and kernel/driver concepts; experience with Linux, QNX, or other real-time operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware and hardware interfaces; experience with integration and automated testing for drivers.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with simulation/emulation platforms, GNU toolchains and debugging suites.
  • Embedded programming with buses like I2C, SPI, Ethernet or USB.
  • Experience building automotive or other safety-critical systems and familiarity with MISRA, ASPICE or ISO26262.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols and technologies: Ethernet MAC/PHY, switching, TCP/IP, SerDes, PCIe, NTB, SR-IOV.
  • Familiarity with video processing standards, virtualization and virtualized device drivers.
  • Experience with version control and review tools (Git/Perforce), Yocto build systems, and AUTOSAR communication stacks.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field as stated in the posting.
