Job Title
Software Engineer, Chip Simulation
Role Summary
Build and maintain a system-level simulation platform that models the physical layer of NVIDIA networking chips and GPUs to enable firmware, SDK, and OS development without hardware dependencies.
The team develops simulation components, CI/test infrastructure, and debugging tools to support internal engineering across hardware, firmware, and software domains.
Experience Level
Entry-level; 1+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, validating, and supporting simulation components and infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain physical-layer simulation components for networking chips and GPUs (e.g., link training, transceivers, error injection).
- Collaborate with chip architects, firmware, and hardware teams to model complex physical behaviors accurately.
- Define, implement, and validate simulation features; run regression and validation tests.
- Extend and optimize simulation infrastructure, including CI pipelines, automated test frameworks, and tooling.
- Debug simulation flows and support internal users to resolve issues impacting development and testing.
- Enable simulation support for next-generation devices and features.
Requirements
Required technical skills and abilities. Degree and field expectations are described under Education Requirements.
Must-have:
- 1+ years of Python with strong object-oriented design skills.
- Experience with C and/or C++ in systems or performance-sensitive environments.
- Debugging experience with gdb and familiarity with concurrency issues (races, deadlocks).
- Solid understanding of Linux, containerized environments (e.g., Docker), and command-line tools.
- Familiarity with IPC mechanisms (sockets, message queues, shared memory).
- Clear communicator, well-organized, proactive, and able to lead individual tasks while collaborating with a team.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience building complex simulation or emulation systems that model hardware behavior.
- Experience with multi-platform systems spanning hardware, firmware, and software.
- Knowledge of low-level networking protocols and physical-layer concepts.
- Experience contributing to CI/CD systems and tooling (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Gerrit).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
