Software Engineer, Backend
Normal ComputingJob Title
Software Engineer, Backend
Role Summary
Backend engineer on product teams building CLI, web, and backend services that coordinate long-running work and durable state for semiconductor and AI infrastructure products.
Work with cross-functional teams across New York City, Silicon Valley, London, and Copenhagen to make production software dependable, observable, and easy to operate.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically requires 4+ years of software engineering experience building backend systems.
Responsibilities
Design, operate, and improve backend services and interfaces that span developer machines, web frontends, and server-side execution.
- Design stable, well-typed interfaces across CLI, web, and backend services.
- Evolve Postgres schemas, write migrations, and manage durable event histories.
- Implement lifecycle, queueing, retry, cancellation, idempotency, and recovery for long-running tasks.
- Improve reliability and observability via metrics, traces, structured logs, and health checks.
- Find and remove performance bottlenecks in APIs, database access, and event processing.
- Improve testing, packaging, deployment, and migration practices across repositories and languages.
- Debug and operate software running on developer machines and containerized environments.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and skills.
- 4+ years building backend production services relied on by engineers or customers.
- Experience designing APIs and data models; clear reasoning about concurrency and state.
- Experience operating production services with emphasis on reliability, observability, maintainability, and performance.
- Ability to debug across client, service, database, and deployment boundaries.
- Pragmatic judgment about when to invest in durable abstractions versus shipping straightforward solutions.
Nice-to-have:
- Postgres, Redis/Valkey, event-driven architectures, or high-volume stateful services.
- Kubernetes, containers, cloud infrastructure, or deploying software in resource-constrained on-premises environments.
- Developer tools, CLIs, workflow engines, job schedulers, or distributed execution systems.
- Domain knowledge in semiconductors, EDA, or hardware engineering workflows.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
