Job Title
Software Engineer, ASIC
Role Summary
Design, build, and operate EDA and compute infrastructure that enables analog and digital ASIC development, verification, and firmware build/test workflows. The role partners with IC design, firmware, and manufacturing teams to deliver scalable, reliable tooling and infrastructure for chip development and deployment.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Level - Mid-Career). Typical candidates have practical experience running EDA compute environments, systems administration, and datacenter or cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on building and maintaining infrastructure that supports ASIC design, verification, and firmware development.
- Design, deploy, and operate scalable EDA compute infrastructure and distributed simulation clusters for analog and digital chip design.
- Manage license infrastructure and capacity for multiple EDA vendors (FlexLM and similar).
- Architect and maintain high-performance shared storage for multi-terabyte design data.
- Develop build-system tooling and cross-compilation workflows for firmware targeting custom ASICs.
- Automate bare-metal server provisioning, lifecycle management, and kernel tuning for compute-heavy workloads.
- Improve developer experience for IC and firmware teams via monitoring, self-service tools, and robust automation.
- Operate and integrate multi-cloud and hybrid on-prem/cloud deployments to support EDA workloads.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for day-one effectiveness; nice-to-have items follow.
- Experience administering EDA compute environments and toolchains (Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor/Siemens).
- Working knowledge of FlexLM license server administration and capacity management.
- Proficiency with compiled languages such as Rust, Go, C, or C++.
- Experience with high-performance Linux storage technologies (NFS, ZFS, Ceph, iSCSI, or similar).
- Systems administration on RHEL and Ubuntu, including kernel tuning for compute workloads.
- Familiarity with distributed compute frameworks (Ray, Slurm, LSF, or similar).
- Bare-metal provisioning and lifecycle management at datacenter scale.
- Familiarity with embedded cross-compilation toolchains and build systems (ARM, Bazel, Nix).
- Experience with multi-cloud deployments and hybrid on-prem/cloud architectures.
- Nice-to-have: experience with Cadence Virtuoso/Spectre, Terraform, Ansible, Packer, MAAS, Prometheus, ClickHouse, Grafana, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, OCI.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
