Job Title

Software Engineer — SoC Simulation (Virtual Platforms)

Role Summary

Join the Virtual Platforms team within Marvell's MBE organization to develop functional simulations and models for System-on-Chip (SoC) designs. The role supports early software/firmware development, debugging, and accelerating time-to-market.

This is an engineer role focused on building accurate, efficient virtual platforms and collaborating with software and firmware teams to reproduce and resolve issues before silicon availability.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical guidance: 3–5 years of professional experience with relevant skills; 2–3 years acceptable for candidates with a Master’s or PhD.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building and maintaining functional SoC simulation models and supporting cross-team development and debugging.

  • Design and implement accurate functional models for SoC components and subsystems.
  • Integrate models into virtual platforms to enable early software and firmware bring-up.
  • Collaborate with software and firmware teams to gather inputs and validate behaviors.
  • Analyze simulation results to diagnose and reproduce firmware and system issues.
  • Promote and support adoption of virtual platforms across projects for accelerated development.
  • Maintain and document simulation environments, tests, and models.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and constraints for the role.

  • Proficient in Python and C++ for model and tooling development.
  • Fundamental understanding of firmware and software architecture.
  • Experience or strong interest in computer architecture (ARM and/or RISC-V preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new tools and technologies and to work collaboratively in engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with existing simulator technologies (Virtualizer, Simics, QEMU, gem5) is desirable but not mandatory.
  • May require eligibility to access export-controlled technology; candidates could be subject to export-license review prior to employment.
  • Interview integrity requirement: use of AI-based tools during interviews is not permitted and may disqualify candidacy.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with 3–5 years of relevant experience; or Master’s/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with 2–3 years of experience. Other majors considered with equivalent practical knowledge or experience.
