Job Title

Software Development Engineer - Silicon Development Infrastructure

Role Summary

Design, build, and operate infrastructure that accelerates silicon development at Annapurna Labs. The role spans cloud infrastructure, high-performance computing, and electronic design automation to enable faster iteration, validation, and delivery of custom silicon.

Work closely with chip design, verification, emulation, and software teams to deliver platforms, tooling, automation, and operational practices that reduce time-to-results and improve reliability and cost efficiency. On-site in Austin, TX.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Early career). Typical candidate has 2+ years of professional software development experience and experience designing or architecting systems for reliability and scaling.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on platform delivery, automation, and operational excellence for silicon development workflows.

  • Partner with silicon design, verification, emulation, and software teams to understand workflows and remove manual toil.
  • Design, implement, and operate cloud infrastructure and high-performance computing clusters (e.g., using Slurm).
  • Build tooling and automation to reduce time-to-results and improve developer velocity for silicon teams.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure-as-code and service deployments with testing and rollback mechanisms.
  • Own platform reliability, performance, and cost efficiency from design through production operation.
  • Implement monitoring, diagnostics, and alerting to provide actionable insights on utilization, reliability, and cost trends.
  • Establish incident response processes, runbooks, and documentation; participate in postmortems and design reviews.
  • Benchmark infrastructure and optimize resource allocation for silicon development workloads.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience; preferred skills are listed after must-haves.

  • Must-have: 2+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Must-have: 2+ years designing or architecting systems (reliability, scaling, design patterns).
  • Must-have: Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Go, PowerShell, or Ruby.
  • Must-have: 3+ years of hands-on systems engineering/administration experience in networking, storage systems, and operating systems.
  • Must-have: Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems).
  • Preferred: Experience with Linux/Unix, automation and deployment of large-scale infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK).
  • Preferred: Experience with AWS cloud solutions in a DevOps environment and monitoring/observability and incident management at scale.
  • Preferred: Experience with high-performance computing clusters and workload schedulers (e.g., Slurm) and familiarity with semiconductor development workflows or EDA environments.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
