Software Development Engineer Intern

Role Summary

Work on software development tools for next-generation Ambarella chips used in embedded computer vision and automotive control systems. Develop language features and performance-optimization tooling to improve runtime and compilation efficiency.

Join the R&D team and collaborate with architects, scientists, and cross-functional hardware and software teams to deliver high-performance solutions for camera and automotive applications.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Suitable for current M.S. students or recent graduates.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, and validation of software tools and optimizations.

• Design and implement new language features and compiler/toolchain components.
• Develop performance optimization tools and benchmarking workflows.
• Implement and maintain code in C/C++ and Python for toolchains and firmware interfaces.
• Profile, tune, and validate performance on embedded processors and target silicon.
• Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to integrate tools into development pipelines.
• Document designs, experiments, and test results.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred.

• Must-have: Strong proficiency in C or C++ programming.
• Must-have: Experience with Python scripting for tooling or automation.
• Must-have: Background in one or more of: processor architecture/design or modeling, compiler design and implementation, image processing, machine learning, embedded firmware development, benchmarking, or performance tuning.
• Ability to work independently in a small team and communicate effectively with cross-functional groups.
• Nice-to-have: Prior practical experience in related fields or internships.

Education Requirements

M.S. degree (completed or in progress) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
